Recpect and Bless ,performance art ,2022

Performance art is the main artistic form of Fan Hua’s practice. The work borrows the ancient and representative symbolic metaphor of prayer flags in Tibetan Buddhism. Since 2022, social individuals have been wiped out of their identities through persuasion due to the politicization of the government. After witnessing and experiencing the alienation of the daily lives, as well as the growing numbers of death, through the appproach of screen printing, the artist replaced the banners with masks and replaced the original form and content of the prayer flags with representative red images (photos or video screenshots) of the slogans hang in neiborhoods during quarantine, expressing his dissatisfaction with the authorities' actions, mourning for the deceased lives.

Note: After Buddhism was introduced to Tibet, the prayer flags merged with the local primitivereligion and developed the name "Fengma Banner". In Tibetan, it was called Longda(Tibetan: རླུང་ རྟ་), which means using the power of the wind to transport scriptures like horses to benefit sentient beings in various places. Also known as Mani flags, prayer flags, etc.

Since the beginning of 2022, due to COVID-19, the identity of social individuals has been erased by political and violent means by the government, leaving only bare lives. After witnessing the alienation of the daily lives of the group and the cold and cruel number of deaths, the artist chose the ancient and representative symbol of the prayer flag to express his dissatisfaction with the authorities' practices, condolences to the deceased, and regret and cherish life.
The artist uses prayer flags as the symbol of the work, replaces masks with banner cloth, and replaces the original form and content with representative red images (photos or video screenshots) printed on screen. The location is chosen in the natural environment, abandoned gas stations, and bridges in use to represent the comprehensive coverage of government actions.
