Ream of Flowing
The project commenced towards the end of 2022, amid the waning stages of the COVID-19 pandemic in China. After nearly three years of experimental artistic endeavors diverging from conventional photography, the artist decided to reintegrate into the realm of photography for fresh contemplation. Titled "Ream of Flowing," the series narrates the artist's venture to Milan in early 2022, marking the onset of a new phase of residency and academic pursuits. In this new chapter, the artist opted to explore issues of identity cognition through the medium of photography.
Originating as a photographer transitioning into the domain of contemporary art, the artist's prior works were conducted outside the bounds of conventional photography. This transition mirrors his personal journey, born in a northern Chinese city yet settling long-term in the southwestern region, continually navigating a state of flux in both life and art. The series extensively employs flash photography, focusing on mundane scenes of everyday life. These commonplace elements, however, evoke a sense of absurdity and detachment within the photographs. From living spaces to environmental contexts, extending to various facets of personal identity, the artist endeavors to delve into the exploration of identity cognition.
Throughout this creative process, the artist contemplates his own identity, delving into the relationship between the individual and the environment. Through the medium of photography, he seeks to capture fleeting moments of subtlety and flux in everyday life, reflecting the dynamic interplay between personal identity and environmental influences.
